Whether you’re new to painting or just getting back to it after many years, this is the class for you!
This oil painting class starts with the basics—-equipment, their use and care, differences in transparent
& opaque paints and the techniques that go along with those paint properties, use of color, composition
value and edges. This class is geared to help you find the artist in YOU!

This is a skill building class that is fun! It is not intended for the more experienced painter.

We will be working from a still life setup in this class…no photos necessary.

This class is for the artist wishing to up their painting game, have individualized instruction and critique

Students may work in oil, acrylic or pastel and begin at any skill level.  Class is limited to 6 students per week and is very flexible in that any missed class can be rolled over to the next month.  For materials list, see the Beginner Bootcamp link.  We supply tables, chairs and easels.....and a lot of fellowship and learning.

 Oil and Acrylic Basics for the Serious Beginner

Instructor: Mike Rooney

In this 6 week class you will get up and running with one of the area's most popular artists and teachers, Mike Rooney.  He will cover the basics of oil and acrylic painting, starting with the critical subject of values, then how to mix any color imaginable with a limited palette of red, yellow, blue and white....then on to simplifying complex subject matter, brushwork and palette knife application and techniques.  Mike will cover still life and plein-air painting, as well as using photo references.

This is a comprehensive course for the serious beginner.

LARRY MOORE BIO

I’m an artist, for the most part I paint outdoors, what we call en plein air, which is a fancy french term that means “outdoors”. I’ve been doing this since the mid-80′s and have only recently started to feel like I am in the early stages of figuring it out. It’s a lifelong journey, this figuring it out thing. My background is in illustration where I worked in almost every medium and style you can think of… except maybe egg tempera and marble. I have a huge passion for nature having grown up on a river right next to the ocean with nothing but islands and wildlife behind my house. To paint the great outdoors is to give homage to nature and maybe give the viewers of the paintings a reminder of what was and what could still be.
