Nelson Art Gallery and Studio is a collaboration between owners Denise Smith, the business half and Sandy Nelson, the artist half. Between the two of them, they have decades of experience in the art world. Our goal is to make the Nelson Art Gallery a destination where visitors will be rewarded with a day full of unexpected treats and immeasurable small pleasures as they browse the gallery or participate in a class or workshop.
Our gallery and studio is located in the Lumina Commons shopping center, 1984 Eastwood Road, Wilmington, NC on the way to Wrightsville Beach. We’re just five minutes from the beach in an area of great shops and dining. For the out of town visitor or workshop participant looking for extra things to do, there are golf courses, boating, fishing and lots of special events and festivals.
We hope you enjoy your tour of our artists work. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate in contacting us. We would love to hear from you!
We are very proud to exhibit the works of several local, regional and nationally known artists. Their works are a daily source of inspiration, both for us and for our guests and collectors. The styles, media and subjects are varied which appeal to a broad range of tastes, but all of them are unique in their approach to the creative process. We strive to show works that represent the best Wilmington has to offer! We think you will agree!
Sandy Nelson has been a professional artist for many years. She studied Fine Art and painting at the University of KY and the Scottsdale Art School. Her portraits and landscapes have been accepted to national juried competitions from Maine to California, many winning national awards. Her work is included in over 60 corporate and museum collections including those of Sam Walton, founder of Walmart and George Steinbrenner, owner of the NY Yankees. She was named one of the top 200 artists in 1993 by the Artists Magazine and has been profiled in “The Rotarian” an international publication; she was also selected as an “Artist to Watch” by Southwest Magazine. Nelson’s works will be included in two 2011 books, “Best of America/Oil Artists” and “100 Southern Artists”.
She maintains her studio in Wilmington, NC where she teaches workshops in oil and pastel.
